Playhouse Idea: How to Decorate a Star Wars Themed Playhouse

Bring the galaxy far, far away to life in your garden with a Star Wars playhouse. This guide has some fantastic ideas to take inspiration from; even Yoda would say, “Play, you must!”

Star Wars Playhouse Ideas: Themes & Decors

A Star Wars themed wooden playhouse

The force is strong with these ideas, so keep reading and see how you can bring balance to your backyard. Let’s start with:

A Millennium Falcon style

Your kid’s wooden playhouse can look like the fastest ship in the galaxy with a few makeovers.

Greys and silvers are the perfect paint shades for the base, paired with black panels. And there are the blue strips to bring the structure close to the Lando’s Falcon design.

After the paint, add tubes made from cardboard or plastic near the windows. These will stand in as laser cannons—it’s already coming together, right? Inside, cover one wall with switches and printed or sticker dials. Kids will treat these as the flight controls.

Finish the look with a kid-friendly chair in front of the “cockpit” area and throw in a toy helmet or two. Add blasters for the crew, and suddenly the playhouse is ready for take-off!

Ewok or Wookie treehouse

A tower playhouse or anything raised off the ground is the perfect base for this theme.

Opt for Earthy browns and deep greens for the paint; this trick can help it blend in among the trees. Rope netting or a few fake vines bring the outside closer to the look of Endor.

Feel free to add a few tweaks, like a climbing rope or wooden ladder, to make the setup feel like a treetop hideout. On the walls, hang props such as shields or toy bows to match the Bright Tree Village vibe or Kashyyyk’s.

Keep a box of furry costumes nearby and throw in a few cuddly toy companions to make playtime even better. Before long, your little ones will be treating the playhouse like their own village in the forest (a.k.a. your garden).

Jedi temple playhouse theme

A Jedi Temple works best in a big 2-storey wooden playhouse, like the BillyOh Peardrop Extra. The lower floor can serve as a training ground with foam swords and toy lightsabers. Meanwhile, the upper floor becomes a council space where “missions” are planned.

Paint the walls in beige or stone tones for a temple-like look, then highlight edges with gold or blue trims. Hang a few Jedi Order’s emblem banners, and keep a box of Jedi robes nearby so the kids can jump straight into character.

Tip: Give the “training area” a few obstacles, like soft stepping stones or a balance beam. A chair or small table upstairs, so the Jedi Council can have a place to map out their adventures!

Death Star command centre

The Death Star makes the perfect base if your little one fancies playing the villain for a change. A darker theme goes nicely here, so cover the playhouse in greys and blacks. Then, drop in red touches to replicate the targeting screens you see in the films.

Instead of leaving the walls bare, stick on cardboard panels or print out displays. A little desk with some makeshift buttons can act as the command hub where “orders” get issued.

Set out Stormtrooper helmets or masks for dress-up, and line shelves with toy ships or figures. And just like that – kids can pretend they’re running the station or guarding the Empire.

Tatooine sandcastle base

Tatooine is all about that desert look, so go for sandy tones on the playhouse and rough it up with a few “rocky” textures. A flag here, a toy droid there. You could also put together a mini sand pit for digging. Or, build a moisture vaporator from spare bits lying around – a decor the kids can use to collect water from the dry air.

Hand the kids a Luke Skywalker tunic or moisture farmer clothes so they feel at home on the dunes.

X-wing fighter hangar

Every young pilot needs a hangar to prep their ship, and an X-Wing theme is spot on. A coat of white with bold red stripes instantly says “Rebel Alliance”.

Use the corner inside as the cockpit with homemade flight controls. Stick a couple of toy engines to the sides, and soon the playhouse looks like a starfighter ready in its hangar. A taped launch pad on the ground outside makes the whole thing even more fun.

Don’t forget pilot helmets and a few starfighters around for back-up!

Round-up

A Star Wars playhouse turns a simple kids outdoor playhouse into something kids can get lost in. Whether it’s a Jedi base, a pilot’s hangar, or even the Death Star, the goal is to give them a backdrop for roleplay. May the Force be with you on this project!
