Where Is the Best Place to Keep Your BBQ in Your Garden?

A good barbecue needs the right location, apart from a reliable chef, of course! Where you place your BBQ makes a difference in terms of food quality, the productivity of your gathering, and safety. If you’re not sure about a good spot beyond ‘just anywhere in the garden,’ here are a few location ideas you can consider.

A Dedicated BBQ Corner

Your garden corner can serve as your blank canvas; use it to transform this once-neglected area into your grilling space. No major renovations needed, but if the ground is sloped, you may need to level it so the BBQ remains stable. If everything’s already good, place your charcoal grill in a central spot within the corner and leave enough space to move around it.

Add a small preparation table, such as a folding table, where you can keep your grilling tools, utensils, and condiments. The fold-up design can be tucked away when not in use and is also portable, so you can move the table wherever you need it to be.

Set up a 3m garden umbrella in the area to protect the grill and yourself (or whoever is in charge of cooking) from the sun, rain, and wind. With this simple layout, not only have you maximised the awkward space, but you’ve also given your grill its rightful spot.

Proximity to Your House

Save yourself the trouble of going back and forth between the kitchen and the grill by having your BBQ situated near your home. This setup means you can keep a closer eye on it, especially if you’re multitasking with other kitchen duties. This lets you handle any issues, like flare-ups or sudden weather changes, more quickly.

You can set up a prep table and gather everything you need there so you can focus more on grilling. And if you need to grab additional supplies inside quickly, you don’t have to walk far.

Note: While this is a great location, make sure the grill is at least 10 feet away from the building, as well as from any overhangs or other structures like a shed to prevent fire risks. Always have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand or water close by in case of flare-ups or unexpected fires.

Grill Under Freestanding Structure

Why not use your wooden gazebo or pergola as a BBQ shelter? It can easily accommodate a kettle grill or even a 3-burner gas BBQ without taking up much space. Plus, having the grill under the structure provides protection from the weather. If the structure is placed in the corner of your garden, it’s even better!

Place the grill in one corner of the gazebo or pergola to make room for more furniture. If the space is limited, opt for folding or stackable chairs and an extendable dining table. If it’s the opposite, you might as well set up a dining set. Being close to the grill, you can serve your guests right away! Just make sure the seating arrangement is not too close to the BBQ.

Tip: Install a grill screen or a windbreak around the BBQ area. This will help block the wind and guide the smoke in a different direction, away from where people are seated.

There may be more location ideas out there, but these three are among the best spots, so at least one of them is worth considering. Remember to cover your grill with a well-fitting BBQ cover when not in use or for storage, even if it’s sheltered. This will ensure it remains in good condition, protected from outdoor elements, and ready for your next cookout!
