Types of Roofs

No matter what wooden building materials have been used for your shed, mineral roof felt can better protect them from inclement weather. With a red mineral finish, felt is an excellent, budget-friendly alternative to roof tiles on wooden roofs. Plus, it works for apex and flat roofs on all common garden buildings.

Waterproofing - Deal With Roof Overhang

No matter the types of roofing, whether it's an apex roof or a flat roof, there's only so much runoff that exposed wood can provide. Instead, protect your roof structure from bad weather by adding a protective layer that's been weatherproofed. Just make sure to install roofing felt in dry and warm weather.

Roof Replacement

With a choice of lengths for this roofing material, you ensure water resistance for your garden building no matter the size.

Roof Felting Checklist

Make sure to carry out the construction process onto a dry surface and have basic tools like a Stanley knife and hammer handy. Check out our post on felting a shed roof for a step-by-step guide.

How do I install the roofing felt?

To install mineral felt you roll it over the roof, cut strips, and use roofing tacks to hold it down. The order in which you lay the felt is different depending on the roof type. For more information see our blog on How To Felt a Shed Roof.

Pent: For a pent roof, work from the lower point upwards so that the water runs off the overlaps (100mm), usually towards the back of the building.

Apex: For apex roofs you start at the eaves and work your way up to the ridge of the roof overlapping as you go (100mm), your last piece will go over both sides of the ridge and overlap the pieces on either side. You can also affix this middle strip with felt adhesive.

How much felt do I need?

The best way to find how much felt you need is to take measurements directly from the building. Remember to take into account the overlaps of 100mm when laying each of the strips. Also take into account that the felt will need to be cut to length so it is better to measure how many lengths you will need rather than the square meterage.

Is this product suitable for playhouses?

Yes, at Garden Buildings Direct, we use this roof covering on a wide range of our buildings including the playhouse ranges. All playhouses are EN71-approved so you can be sure that this covering will be great for your little ones playhouse.
